Fall Fun ( What You Want To Know Wednesdays)

We are officially in October and the fun fall activities are in full swing! All around the country leaves are changing color and falling, pumpkin patches are ready to be scoured for the perfect pumpkin, apple trees are ready to shed their fruits for the tastiest pie for the neighborhood apple pie bake – off, and mazes are ready to be explored. So grab your hot apple cider or pumpkin spice latte and cozy up for some fun facts before you go apple picking, or jump on a hayride.

  • A maze is defined as: “a path or collection of paths, typically from an entrance to a goal. “

  • It’s predecessor, the “labyrinth,” was created to send visitors on a spiritual journey.

  • The word “maze” is Middle English and dates back to the 13th century. It means “delirium,” or “delusion.”

  • Pineapple Garden Maze is the world’s largest maze, stretching over 3 acres.

  • The earliest hedge mazes were built to entertain royalty. They also served as private meeting places for secret meetings.

  • Pumpkin carving originated in Ireland hundreds of years ago. Jack-o’-lanterns were originally carved out of turnips or potatoes.

  • Irish immigrants came across pumpkins in America and started using them to carve their designs.

  • Pumpkins are indigenous to the western hemisphere.

  • Pumpkin Spice is a $361 MILLION dollar empire.

  • Starbucks was the first company to come out with the pumpkin spice flavor, and it is the most popular seasonal Starbucks drink ever sold.

  • Originally, the PSL ( Pumpkin Spice Latte ) did not contain actual pumpkin – just the spices you would put in a pumpkin pie – cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.

  • It takes about 36 apples to create one gallon of apple cider.
